Not too long ago, HDTVs were the exclusive territory of men. But with the Sony Bravia, all that changed. I found a section buried in some Bravia research revealing that the Bravia’s sleek, minimalist design and crazy-impressive color range made women absolutely love it. I thought: Did Sony accidentally create The World’s First Television for Men AND Women? My partner and I decided: Sure!
So, long before Bandersnatch and the like, we created a campaign that allowed viewers to choose their own ending to our Bravia commercials: one that played to male stereotypes and the other to female. And with DVR tech like TiVo (remember TiVo?), they could do so in real time.
The campaign was such a success that people would walk into places like Best Buy (remember Best Buy?) and ask for “that TV for men and women.” Sony even beat out Samsung HDTVs which were made in the very same factory!
